redbox review: Bad Ass (no spoilers)

We just finished watching Bad Ass. I didn't even read the description of the movie when I saw it on redbox. All I needed was the movie cover image:

A FANNY PACK. Machete is wearing a fanny pack! It's like all my wildest dreams have come true!

Seriously though, the movie was pretty fun! It's slow moving but that makes a lot of the comedy moments seem to come out of no where and created an oddly perfect timing for a lot of the jokes. Do not, under any circumstances, take this movie seriously. It is obviously meant to be a very light and silly watch with nothing much deeper going on.

The movie is about a Vietnam War veteran who's life goes rather downhill after the war and is actually pretty sad to start. One day when he is a much older man, he is riding a bus and two nazi jerks try to kick an older black man out of his seat. Trejo's character steps in and beats them up with someone recording the whole incident and uploading it to YouTube. Afterward he's known as "Bad Ass" and in a completely unrelated incident his best friend gets into some trouble and the movie progresses from there with an incredibly light plot that involves beating a lot of people up and explosions. Probably my favorite thing about the movie is his use of the public transportation system because the bus is his Batmobile.

The whole thing is apparently based off of a real YouTube video "Epic Beard Man", except that the character in the movie isn't racist and really only takes after the original incident in attire and bus violence.

Here's the thing though...DANNY TREJO WITH A FANNY PACK.

Also, I can't for the life of me find an image credit for this, but while I was searching for this movie poster I found the following image and I am going to pretty much wallpaper every inch of our house in it:

I would highly recommend this movie for people who like ridiculousness, fake but also awesome looking violence, completely unnecessary explosions, and seeing Danny Trejo in a fanny pack.

I also highly recommend staring at that image of Danny Trejo with a dove forever and ever.
