OHSGC: Atom Zombie Smasher, Ben There Dan That, Dead Rising 2

One Hour Steam Game Challenge! In which I try to play at least one hour of every game I own on Steam, since Valve torments us all by giving us such great deals on games we can't help but buy them regardless of whether we actually want them or have even heard of them. My goal is to get my Steam list to 100% played

Atom Zombie Smasher (39 min.) - I have no idea where this game came from. Indie Bundle?

I hated it. I hated this game so much that I couldn't do a full hour of it. As far as I could see there wasn't any tutorial, and when you click on the question marks to try and figure out what anything is they have some stylized garbage that doesn't help at all. Now that I'm reading the Wikipedia article on it I see where I was going wrong, but I wish the game would have explained its rules to me instead of just tossing me in and forcing me to guess. Dumb people like to play strategy games too! You're allowed to explain how a game works! It doesn't make your game seem less intelligent, it just makes it more playable! (Not that you're dumb if you didn't like it. Even figuring it out I thought there was a lot wrong with it. I just prefer games that don't force me to research the damn thing online before I even know how to play.)

Play again? No. To be fair though, I am not one of those dumb people that likes to play strategy games. I am one of those dumb people that likes to bro-game. So, I'm going to go ahead and say that if you like strategy games and you like trying to figure out weird aesthetics, this might be the game for you. On the flip side, I liked the idea of the game, just not the game itself. So even if you want to figure it out you still may hate it. I also got pissed pretty quickly so it made it harder to figure things out through a haze of rage.

Ben There, Dan That (15 min.) - I have no idea where this game came from. I think someone may have bought it for me as a joke when it was on sale for a penny or something.

I hated it. I hate point and click "adventures". They are extremely annoying interactive story books. I was going to attempt to put my prejudice aside and play this game for a full hour but I got tired of clicking on random objects to try and move the stupid thing forward. Plus I thought maybe the humor would make up for the fact that I was playing a "game" in a genre I hate, but I didn't find anything funny. I would have had to shoot myself if I tried to go the full hour.

Play again? No.

Dead Rising 2 (89 min.) - I think this was another gift from a Christmas Sale. I might have bought it for myself though, it's the kind of game I enjoy.

I HATE GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE SO MUCH. Ugh. I couldn't remember my password and apparently you aren't allowed to save the game without logging into their horrendous service. So, after much yelling and screaming and raging I finally figured out what it was and was able to log in and save.

If you are able to get past that horrible bit, it's actually a pretty fun game! I already knew people loved this game for the environment because you can hilariously pick up pretty much anything you see off the ground and hit a zombie with it. Not everything is going to do much damage but it's all pretty entertaining.

I liked the game though I thought the controls were a bit wonky and slow. There is also a LOT going on in this game, too much I think, and I'm not sure if I'm suppose to do everything or if I'm suppose to pick and choose. Everything that is going on is interesting though. You have survivors with different personalities you can rescue by having them tag along behind you to the safe house, you have a main mission to figure out what is going on, you have some lady giving you different missions from what she sees on the security cameras. Everything is timed and the time element was pretty cool actually. You have to give your daughter anti-zombie medicine every 24 in-game hours and missions only last for a certain amount of in-game time. So you kinda have to prioritize and figure out what you want to do.

Or you can just run around in a silly outfit killing zombies. I am a sexy beast...also someone needs to get this girl an adult!

The best part was the outfits just stay on your character until  you change. So when things get super serious, he's still prancing around in short shorts with a pretty hat.

Worst part of the game - You don't get to immediately punch this guy:

Play again? Yes! I want to try the co-op. Though this game has somewhat failed in enticing me to actually complete missions over just running around in my sexy outfit trying to kill zombies with fake plants and posters.

  1. I played the crap out of Atom Zombie Smasher. It was my favorite game for a while. I like both strategy and psychedelic surf rock, though.

    1. I think it didn't help that it was a strategy game within a strategy game within a strategy game. So it was triple a genre that I tend to dislike. lol

    2. I can see where you're coming from. I weep for the little flashing square people under your protection. :)
